Somme Museum 1916 in Albert

Located in the heart of the battlefields and in the centre of Albert, a symbolic city of the First World War, this museum, whose entrance is located at the foot of the Basilica of Our Lady of Sheep, retracesthe life ofsoldiers in the trenches during the offensive of July 1, 1916. Fifteen alcoves and shop windows are installed in a 250-metre underground used as an anti-aircraft shelter during the Second World War. Centre Sir John Monash

Drawing on an exceptional collection of Australian archives, the history of Australian involvement on the battlefields of the Western Front during the First World War is directly from personal diaries, letters and the service records of the men and women in the field.

This incredible dive into the heart of the events that have forged a nation is made possible by a highly intuitive and interactive system, consisting of a large number of touch screens and interactive terminals of the latest generation, and an application specially developed.

In the heart of the Centre is a 360-degree cinema that immerses the visitor in the heart of the battles of Villers-Bretonneux and the Hamel, to experience the Western Front like never before.

Franco Australian Museum

In the aftermath of the First World War, a small contingent of the Australian War Graves Office was based in Villers-Bretonneux. The city is in ruins and to rebuild it, Australians and French help each other in a movement of international solidarity that results in the reconstruction of its school.
The museum presents this history of war, memory and the future through the wealth of the collection of the Franco-Australian association made mainly of donations. The journey allows us to understand the construction of this Franco-Australian memory, using 4 sequences illustrated by personal objects of soldiers but also by moving testimonies of this Franco-Australian friendship. A canopy space allows visitors to remember while contemplating the inscription on the school grounds "Do not forget Australia" ,symbolizing the desire for the duty of remembrance and recognition.

Vignacourt 14-18 place of remembrance

Immerse yourself in a little history full of humanity in the heart of the First World War away from the tumult of the front, in the village of Vignacourt.

Louis and Antoinette Thuillier, as true photography enthusiasts, immortalized their encounters with soldiers from all over the world within their own farm. Between 1916 and 1918, more than 4000 plates of photographic glasses were made by the couple. At the end of the war, the plaques were stored in the attic of the farm, where they fell into oblivion until today.

In the very heart of the old barn of the farm where the events really took place, Valérie and her team will give you the undersides of the pictures on display to give an extra soul, all emotions, to your visit. Let it be said, here, it is not a fixed and monotonous presentation.
It is a place of remembrance where the small story allows to have another look at the great story.
